How to Clean Bose Wave CD Player —Top Tips

The Bose Wave CD player offers a variety of options as a sound system.

The Bose Wave has CD, AM/FM, MP3, and Auxillary connections to adapt to, however you would like to channel your sound.

When you have a system that has a CD player, or any components that can be exposed to the elements, you need to clean them.

Over time, dust and debris can build up, causing damage to your Bose Wave CD player.

How to Clean Bose Wave CD Player

One of the easiest ways to clean a Bose Wave CD player is to use compressed air to blow out any debris or dust. Do this method very gently as compressed air is highly pressurized. You can also use a laser lens cleaner disc or directly clean the laser eye itself.

Knowing When to Clean Your Bose Wave Player

Because one of the main signs that your Bose Wave CD player needs to be cleaned is issues reading your discs, I’ve found it’s good to do a little troubleshooting first, in case there is another issue that you need to address.

Firstly, make sure that you’ve inserted a CD that is compatible with your system and that the disc is facing on the right side.

Next, try restarting your Bose Wave player by disconnecting it from power for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in. Clean the CD itself and try to play it again.

If none of these steps work and there is no source of interference, that is when I clean my Bose Wave player.

Compressed Air and Cleaning Your Bose Wave CD Player

One common way to clean electronics is by using compressed air. It can easily remove dust and other debris that builds up in your electronics over time.

To access the area that you need to clean depends on how deeply you want to clean it. You can simply open the CD drawer and blow the compressed air on it, or you can remove the cover for better access.

To remove the cover of your Bose Wave CD player, you’ll notice small screws located on the side and the back of the CD player.

Unscrew these and then you lift the cover off and blow the compressed air into the CD player.

When using compressed air, you should always hold it about 10 inches away.

The components in your Bose Wave player are delicate and if you are too close to a range you can end up damaging the CD player further.

Using a Laser Lens Cleaner Disc On Your Bose Wave CD Player

Laser lens cleaner discs are inserted into your Boxe Wave player exactly how you would insert any other disc.

How it works is that as the disc spins, small microfiber brushes, combined with a lens cleaner that you put onto the disc, clean out dust and dirt that has built up over time.

When using a laser lens cleaner disc, you need to let it run through your Bose Wave player’s system a few times. This gives it the ability to fully clean it.

Manually Clean the Lens Eye of Your Bose Wave CD Player

You can also manually clean the lens eye yourself. I’ve found that this method works best but must be done very carefully as to not damage the lens eye.

First, remove the cover from your Bose Wave CD player by unscrewing the screws in the side and back of your system. Once that’s off, just to the right of the spindle that rotates your disc will be the lens.

To clean the lens eye, take a microfiber cloth and add a little bit of rubbing alcohol. Gently wipe the lens eye-clean.

Avoid pressing too hard, as you will damage the lens. Use another dry cloth or a section of your cloth with no rubbing alcohol on it and, using a small circular motion, wipe the lens eye dry.
